I visualize a much more dispersed model as modular molten salt thorium reactors deploy and the efficiencies you predict for the future of data centers transpire. They could be combined into a single module and situated to reduce cost for the last mile. That's not to say that they couldn't be networked as semi-autonomous nodes.
Thorium reactors, and nuclear power more generally, make a lot of sense for data centers. Especially ones that have power demands like GPU ones. But if/when a post GPU compute substrate arrives in the mid-2030s, it seems like power demands for those chips will be much lower than for today’s GPUs.
Granted. A perfect place for such a module would be a hospital like the one I worked in before retirement. Huge data center and backup generators that did not provide instantaneous power in the event of local outages.
Also to be considered: power requirements of quantum computers.

Thanks. On the oil futures, the best way to think about it is: oil futures were created by NYMEX, in I think 1983, in order to break OPEC’s stranglehold on the oil market. Today’s analogue to OPEC is nvidia and the hyperscalers controlling access to GPUs.
